![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Here's what I spent the night dealing with on the Daytona. Ok, so what do you think? I tried to clean the fuel pump and filter out just by rinsing it with gas and dislodging any sludge/rust. Think that will suffice or is there other stuff inside the pump itself that I need to try and clean out? Do I need to take the bike to the dealer and have the rest of the fuel system cleaned out (injectors, etc)? I'm going to clean out the tank to get rid of any additional rust and whatever else is in there, but then do I need to seal it with something like kreem or can I just put it back together? Ugh...well on the bright side of things I'll be riding the Super Duke to work tomorrow. |

Oh sure, they all look like that
IDK where the filter is on this thing but if this is all upstream of it, you'll be fine, eventually. There should be one in there somewhere to help protect the pump if nothing else. If the junk is downstream, the injectors should probably come off and be cleaned. It may not be downstream if it wasn't run with all this junk in it, apparently it was sitting, outside, in a pool, underwater:) IIRC, theres a guy down in FLA that cleans and flowmatches injectors, WERA or Jennings board should help. Rust in the tank can be a never ending problem. Ebaying a tank and pump may end up to be the easiest. Ive heard mixed reviews on the liner type products. Keeping it full of gas seems to stave off the demon. I might try this on the next one I see: http://www.instructables.com/id/Electrolyt...oval-aka-Magic/ -------------------- Obsession is a great substitute for talent.

I don't remember if it was rust or bad paint or what exactly. That looks nasty. -------------------- |

Any chance that bike is still under warranty? That is BS and I'd for sure let Triumph know about it and see if they will help you out.

Filter is upstream, so I'm hoping nothing too bad got by.
I tried the tank sealer thing a few years ago on my Honda NT650 and it seemed to work well enough. Didn't keep it around long enough to know how long it lasts though. Not under warranty. This is what happens when you buy used sometimes, you buy someone else's problem. As long as it doesn't cost too much to fix I'll still be ok on price though. I posted up on triumph675.net as well. I'll take a look at those WERA posts. Someone had an entire set of plastics and tank for sale a month or so ago and I was thinking about buying them...wish I did. |

FWIW, Yamaha sells a mild acid based tank cleaner that does a good job of getting rid of that rust. I would avoid using any kind of sealer.
Also, if you can't get the pump clean, and don't want to spend the $400.00 (!) that Triumph wants for a new one, a 04-up Yamaha R1 pump drops right in with no mods. I see them on E-Bay for cheap all the time. I'd say just replace it as well, except by now you've discovered how expensive 675 tanks are, even used. |

ok next question...what to do with the rusty gas I drained out of the tank? I have it in a couple of gas containers right now, but I need to get rid of it. Any ideas?

Drop it off at the Avella Uni Mart. That's what they sell as premium fuel -------------------- Harley is in the interesting position of being unable to do anything right, except in the minds of those who believe every other manufacturer does everything wrong.. |

You could try running it through a Honda. I hear they'll run on anything except NyQuil. Maybe that's what's in the Avella gas? Or you could sell it as race gas to the guy on the 1000 in the beginner group at the next track day. Maybe just take it to your next bonfire??
In all reality though, shops must drain gas tanks once in a while. I'd call around and see who can dispose of it for you. I'm sure they'll charge you, but it's probably safer than the other options I listed. |

Wouldn't it be easier if I just skip the middle man and give it directly to you and Matt?
Thanks Kenny, I knew I could count on you. Someone suggested filtering it and using it in my lawn mower. Not sure I want to do that. Maybe a big bon fire is in order. |
